Catch Me If You Can
by Kyle Morris
Monday, December 9 was a night when lies were acceptable. If you could distinguish the lie from the truth while caught up in a whirlwind fable, then you found this event to be one of folklore, fiction, fantasy, and fantastic story tellers.
First Person Arts sponsored a Story Slam competition at World Cafe Live, located at 3025 Walnut Street. The event, themed Liar Liar, drew a few hundred spectators who accepted a night of fibs in exchange for a few laughs and fun.
Each competitor had five minutes to "tell the truth" during their time on stage, with the winner walking away with $1,000.00. Ok, I am lying, too. The winner walked away gracefully with $100 and bragging rights. The event’s winner was a young lady named Freya, whose words I found hard to believe and who, I am sure, even fibbed about her own name.
Or am I lying about everything you just read?
