“The Young Friends of Rittenhouse Square is a division of the Friends of Rittenhouse Square for members 21 to 41 years old. In recent years, the Young Friends have contributed more than $25,000 to the ongoing care of The Square. The Friends of Rittenhouse Square is a non-profit organization that funds and manages a majority of the programs needed to sustain this amazing landmark.”
“I’ve been coming for yrs. It’s a must attend for anyone from center city. It’s Rittenhouse square, why wouldn’t anyone attend.” – Jim Schultz
Ball on the Square is Rittenhouse Square largest annual event. Industry leaders, philanthropists, business executives, politicians, and long-time residents of the Square, enjoy a night of celebration, fun and networking while raising proceeds to maintain Rittenhouse square.
This weekend also celebrates the very first Young Friends of Rittenhouse Square Ball. This black-tie gala turned the historic Rittenhouse Square Park into an outdoor ballroom, raising funds to continue preserving Rittenhouse Square Park.
Here’s what attendees had to say:
“This is our 1st time It’s a beautiful event and we’re lucky to be here. We live in the neighborhood and heard it’s a good way to support the park. Our real interest is supporting the Philadelphia education fund. We’re lucky and want to help others who haven’t had opportunities” – Sue and John
“I attended this event more than once. I Always feel so glamorous all dressed up with the movers and shakers of Philly. Why do I come back? I like to support. It’s special. I like being friends of Rittenhouse.” – Judy L.
“(Day) I grew up here. This was my park. I know the lion and we used to play here. (Buck) This is my first time attending Ball on the Square and it is fabulous. Everything is first class, the place, the structure. I’m glad Meridian Bank invited us out.” – Day and Buck
“This is my 10th yr. in attendance. It’s free food and drinks, I get to dress in a tuxedo along with business connections. What’s there not to like?” – Walter B.
This was my third year in attendance. My very first time was interesting though. I under prepared (laughing) and the event organizers kept asking me if I was in the right place. Needless to day, I enjoyed myself enough to want to come back. Being in the room with seasoned veterans and freshman change makers makes a difference when you’re learning to navigate the professional world. This event allowed me to get a close up on who’s enacting change in the Philadelphia market place while sharing a drink or dish and talking over the future of our beloved city. The attendees not only care about the park, but Philadelphia as a whole. Ball on the Square helped me understand who really taking the reins to see betterment across the city.
