Momma’s Wellness Joint

Published

on

by Catherine Carrozza

My favorite place to practice yoga and relax after a long day is without a doubt Mama’s Wellness Joint, located on the corner of 11th and Pine. Paige Chapman, founder and certified Yoga instructor, opened this wonderful spot in October 2012. From toddler to adult, beginner to advanced, Mama’s Wellness Joint welcomes everyone in the Philadelphia community. Since I was 16, I have been an avid Yoga learner, runner, as well as began studying Buddhism. In the fall of 2012, I moved to Philadelphia to attend college and in the summer of 2013, I fortunately found Mama’s Wellness Joint. I needed somewhere to unwind and relax after a long day, and this spot was certainly the answer. They offer a fantastic student discount for classes and packages, so I attended class 4-6 times a week and truly fell in love. Every instructor pays close attention to each individual’s level and really understands the body. Mama’s Wellness Joint offers a variety of workshops, as well as an in house massage therapist. They also have a lovely retail section dedicated to all natural products for everyone made by Paige’s mother, Beverly, a wellness master. This warm and welcoming community made a positive impact on my life and has influenced me to become a Yoga instructor. I truly encourage anyone who hasn’t taken a class here yet, to do so very soon!

Evil Genius Bubbles Up New Product: Announces Hard Seltzer

Published

on

Philadephia, PA- Evil Genius Beer Company had their crazy scientist emerge from the lab on Monday evening for a night of retro 90’s fun to announce their newest product, a line of hard seltzers.

In collaboration with their contract brewing partner Wyndridge Farm Brewing, based in York County PA, Evil Genius is launching three flavors on a limited basis of about 5,000 cases in November, as well as being available currently in their Fishtown taproom. You can expect to find it in stores like Wegmans, Total Wine and More, Weis Market, Giant and your local beer distributor or liquor store across PA, NJ, CT, DE, MD, RI and MA during the month of November.

Through a press release, Evil Genius partner Trevor Hayward said, “We really loved the idea of creating something new and different from beer. Our taproom in Philadelphia, while the vast majority of what we sell is beer, has seen a huge rise in the demand for hard seltzer. We love to create new things, and experiment, and saw this as an opportunity to do just that with something we could see our customers wanted!”

At the product launch, the theme was totally retro. Power Rangers, Ren & Stimpy and Beverly Hills 90210 were playing on the TV’s in the taproom, servers were on roller blades handing out samples, and everyone got a fanny pack. Luke Bowen, another Evil Genius partner explained how they were trying to make each drink it’s own throwback experience. “Everyone’s experience will be different, but we hope they’re reminded of a great childhood memory, enjoy the crisp and delicious taste and flavors, and come away feeling refreshed.”

EG has three flavors (and hashtags) they will launch with. Black Cherry and #bestlife which according to some research is one of the most popular flavors in the hard seltzer game currently, lemon-lime with #bigmood, a classic combination that is aiming to check the boxes in both the refreshment and drinkability columns (and my favorite of the three) and grapefruit along with #tbt providing a classic taste without the acidity.

Speaking of things that aren’t coming with the hard seltzer, all three flavors are without sugar, and are gluten free. They also only contain 100 calories, so these drinks won’t give you the guilt that comes with having too much sugar and gluten.

If you want to get in touch with them about their newest product seltzer@evilgeniusbeer.com is the place to do so. If you’re looking for information you can also check out the website http://www.evilgeniusseltzer.com/

Money Views, Money Moves

Published

on

by Mario Flores Jr

You don’t have to be poor to be broke. 4 years ago, my wife and I engaged in a conversation we tend to shy away from due to the potential of disturbing the peace. I boldly said “I know how much you make a year, you know how much I make a year, we are earning more money than we ever earned before and why does it feel we are making less than did 10-15 years ago – our dollar is not stretching like it used to…it feels like we are dragging a financial anchor!”

Through a thin thread of events and information, I learned that we are not as smart as we thought we were about money. The rules drastically changed and the advice from grandparents and parents are not all that applicable in today’s digital post 2007 world. I felt frustrated and depleted since many of my close friends are in the same situation and every one of them are hardworking, honorable talented people that think like I did by believing in making more money will solve the problem. After going through the Financial Fitness program, one of OUR first steps was to learn the different views about money.

I thought there was only one view (make it and spend it) and to learn that there were 10 money views, shocked me:

1. Money as a Mystery: In this money view, people seem to have no clue how money is made, how it is retained, and how it works.
2. Money as a Master: From this perspective, a persons’ entire life is lived in bondage to paying the bills.
3. Money as a Monster: This worldview occurs when the money as a master problem last a long time and get increasingly worse.
4. Money as a Major: A person with this money view applies most of his focus and fascination on how to acquire more.
5. Money as a Motivator: This is the condition whereby money is used to push one to higher achievement and greater contribution.
6. Money as a Manipulator: In this Money view, people use their money to get what they want out of other people.
7. Money as a Minimizer: This is the conditions where the presence of money minimizes one’s ambitions
8. Money as a Maximizer: A person with this view is driven to utilize his or her money to make a greater contribution and maximize his or her potential.
9. Money as a Monument: In this view, money is used as a status symbol, to build a reputation, or as an attempt to establish an immortal family legacy.
10. Money as a Menace: Those with this money view use money as a destructive force in their own lives and in the lives of others around them. PART of becoming financially fit consist of acknowledging what money view one has and desires.

Another part of becoming financially fit is seeking a sound credible source that:

A. Instructs how to get out of debt
B. Teaches how to stay out of debt
C. Educate how to increase your personal brand and skillset to increase your annual income.
D. Learn what happened to today’s economy that lead so many talented hardworking people into a negative financial spiral.
