Nintendo Direct 09.23.21

Published

on

When I heard about the Nintendo Direct 09.23.21 I knew I was going to be (personally) let down. The sole reason was for Super Smash Bros. As an advocate of the series, I was hype to hear about the expansion pack for the N64 and Sega titles. Sadly, my beloved wasn’t there. Nonetheless, the announcements were unexpected. Let’s get into it.

Major takeaways from Nintendo’s announcements: Bayonetta 3, the Super Mario Brothers Movie, Hyrule Warriors Expansion Pass, and Updates to the N64 and Sega Catalogs.

Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta is back with longer hair, and this time her pets come along for the ride. The Bayonetta series continues to push forward by giving fans one thing they’ve always wanted: to ride a dragon.

The Super Mario Movie

The Super Mario Movie? It’s going to be hilarious. Jack Black as Bowser (bruh), Chris Pratt as Mario? I was in tears watching them make the announcement. The film will be out on December 21st, 2022, and will feature Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.

Variety on Twitter: "The #SuperMarioBros animated movie from Illumination has revealed its all-star voice cast and 2022 holiday season release plans. https://t.co/j5ySYDN5WR… https://t.co/YO0XQlFyQW"

Hyrule Warriors Expansion Pass – Wave 2

It looks like the fight against Calamity Ganon continues with Guardian of Remembrance. From what it looks like there’s a Guardian made of malice along with a familiar face joining the fight.

Akuma in Resident Evil 2?!?!

Published

on

Originally published in April 1998 as an April Fool’s joke in EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly), Akuma was rumored to be an unlockable character within the PlayStation original, Resident Evil 2. To unlock the famed Street Fighter character, players must play through both scenarios of the game six times, while only using a knife and handgun to achieve an A ranking in all of them. When you start the seventh playthrough, play until you reach the computer console. Instead of typing “GUEST”, players must type in “AKUMA” causing players to transform into the character.

26 years later, the April Fools joke was brought to life. Modders Captain Kashup, Snipz, and Zky created Akuma Mode, a mod for Resident Evil 2 that allows players to use Akuma, the tatsumaki, and fire ball to defeat your enemies. Find 8 special zombies for a secret ending.
